Partner Highlight - The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center

It is difficult to think of the desert region in Riverside County without thinking about the many celebrities that have called the Palm Springs area home. Our partner highlight for this week owes its inception to two of these very celebrities from the region. Founded in 1986 by Barbara and Frank Sinatra, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center is our featured partner this week! Located on the Eisenhower Medical Center Campus in Rancho Mirage, The Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center (BSCC) aims its services toward children who have been affected by or are at risk for abuse and neglect. Many of the services that BSCC provides surround therapy to children and families at little or no cost. For reference, their website estimated that individual therapy for a child would cost a family around $5,000 a year. Shockingly, the center assists approximately 700 clients with therapy services throughout the year!

Aside from Therapy services, the center also hosts a variety of classes and workshops for the community. These include parenting classes for high-risk young parents of the Coachella Valley, support groups for adults who were Molested as Children, and a multitude of outreach events.

Another very important project that the BSCC has worked on over the past year is the Coalition to End Human Trafficking for Riverside County and the Coachella Valley. The Coalition was formed along side the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force. The goal of the Coalition is to have a victim-centered and trauma-sensitive approach for survivors throughout the investigation and follow up care. If you wish to learn more about the Coalition or read up on its members (which includes the Cahuilla Consortium and other Native American resources), visit the humantraffickingcoalition.org!

Together with the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, the Cahuilla Consortium can find necessary resources for children that have been victimized by crime and human trafficking survivors in our area. We are grateful for the partnership and leadership that has been offered by the BSCC and their staff!
